Hemi.Wav Takeover @ Cervantes
The third installment of my environmental advocacy booth was part of a collaboration between the Hemi.Wav label and me for one of their artists' first headline shows in Denver. Skinny Limbs is a local artist, and he brings a fresh and exciting energy to the stage. With each release, he continues to share his passion for sound system music and hopes to inspire new creativity within it.
This gig in particular marked a major turning point in my work. For the first time, I was able to merge my hands-on field experience with the academic grounding of my Consulting in Practice course at CU Boulder’s Masters of the Environment program.
With the guidance of my instructors and lessons learned from my first two gigs, I transformed the booth into a more strategic, impactful, and seamless experience. This gig reflected real growth in both my consulting approach and community engagement.
This round, I approached things with a consultant’s mindset. I drafted detailed contracts and scopes of work, then went through a full review process with my client to ensure total alignment before the event. This protected both sides through written agreements signed by everyone involved, including my MENV support team. On the operational side, I refined my engagement system by switching from digital-only QR signups to a paper-based approach, allowing me to stay fully present with fans and handle data entry on the back end. And creatively, my upcycling process leveled up big time, leading to some of my most innovative hoodie designs yet, which also became my highest-selling pieces to date.
IMPACT
The results spoke for themselves. Out of roughly 280 attendees, 65 signed petitions or took direct action (a 23% engagement rate that far exceeded my previous events). Beyond that, the new upcycled hoodie line brought in $1,276 in sales, setting a personal record and proving that purpose-driven art truly resonates with fans when paired with authenticity and impact. On the right is a picture of a heartfelt fan thanking the headlining artist, my client, Skinny Limbs, for putting this on at his show. The way we turned a concert crowd into a community of advocates that night was truly beautiful.
