Rally Cry Speech/Call to action at Mission Ballroom

On April 18, 2025, Yoko invited me back for another creative climate communications collaboration with her music project. This time, I had the incredible opportunity to speak in front of thousands at one of Denver’s most iconic venues. I had the rare privilege of using my voice at an EDM show to advocate for justice, climate action, and community power: a message not often heard in the heart of the bass music scene.

This was my most extensive public speaking engagement yet, and it may also have been the first time in my life that I was not nervous to perform. I could feel in my bones that I was doing what I was meant to do, so there was no second-guessing myself or a lick of self-doubt.

If anything, my only fear was that my message would not land with this demographic. Afraid that people would want to turn away, turn to escapism instead of tuning in to community and collaboration. But boy was I wrong.

It was so encouraging to see my grip on the crowd, their energy in response to my words, and the outpouring of love and support for the message that we can not tolerate our environmental and natural resource protections being stripped away, all in the name of corporate greed.

At the end of my speech, we gave people a way to get involved, advocate for change, and be a part of it. We did this by displaying a QR code linking concert goers to a page on my portfolio that I'm calling my Creative Social Activism guide. You can check it out here: mikeyjclimate.org/csa

The next few days were incredible to see on my analytics page, how my site’s traffic soared through the roof. People were reading it, and people were getting fired up. I had a few fans reach out after the event to say that because of my speech and my guide, they went and attended a local protest that weekend. It truly filled my heart to the brim.

We’re building something. A more just, sustainable world is just off the horizon, and I feel like I can start to see the light peaking :)

Here is the video of my speech :)
